Dear Noreen,

Some comments to the http://www.nmotamed.com/images/artworks/Abstract-Figurative2/4.jpg

Contemplating this abstract work provides the viewer with a perspective of colours, background and overall light effect different from the other works of this series. Brushstrokes provide the viewer with a new painting experience whereby colours are balanced and even the darker colours are not antagonistic to the rest of the painting but indeed complement and provide a grounding to the whole work. The work evokes the east with its delicacy and etherean atmosphere. The underlying grey background somehow seems to provide a contrast to the rest of the painting but it expands the spatial animation of the abstract figures. It seems as if the figures enjoy being where they are and the spatial dimension is at peace with their presence. The combination of the colours provides a superb effect thus providing the viewer with a sensation of immensity, oriental and unspoilt nature.

The forms within the painting do not seem to be competing. Instead they are in harmony. Brushstrokes are linear and the artist's preference to avoid winding and twisting lines is a specific characteristic of the painting thus isolating complexity and and excessiveness outside the painting. The viewer who observes this work of art will find refuge in it and by abandonment discover a deep visual experience decidedly lacking any intellectual excessiveness. By creating this work the artist has developed an ethereal atmosphere inviting and capturing its viewers with its fresh and luminous colours.

If you feel, you may wish to put this on your web site.

As ever kindest regards

Dear Noreen,

Abstract Figurative 1 - 28: this painting gives the idea of something new and this idea is conveyed by a number of things. Young people are at the centre and they are the forbearers of new ideas and changes for society. Technology and transportation are seen as vectors of change in the artistനoughts. Despite these clear elements the artist has made a choice of blurred lines on the sides of the painting thus indicating perhaps change could bring uncertainty or indeed unwanted things. Artists can be seen as being the first to sense what is going to happen though at times they are unable or they wish not to represent these thoughts and indeed might prefer to not disclose them. The contrast between sharp figures in the centre of the painting and the unfocussed lines elsewhere can be interpreted as the view of reality of an artist who sees some aspects of life with the clarity of eye sight and some other parts of life with imagination. The two representations complement each other. Women appear to be at the centre of what seems to be a social event thus this would lead to think they are playing a pivotal role in society. The artist looks at portraying a balanced image, both from a content point of view and with its overall use of techniques.

Colours and Technique: the use of light colours in the centre are contrasted to the darker ones used elsewhere. Again this would appear to symbolise balance and great care is used to convey a message of complementing themes and ideas: the old and the new, the past and the future. The combination of these elements project the present into the future. The artist enjoys the use of blue as this is one of the colours of this painting. This choice certainly conveys another symbolic message to the viewer as blue leads the imagination into the colours of the sky.

Figures: The abstract figure on the far bottom left hand side of the painting leaves the viewer somewhat absent and unable to grasp its meaning though it is represented with great technique and skill. Light brush strokes against darker ones again bring in the balance theme. However, there seems to be a willingness on behalf of the artist to bring into the painting an unknown effect, something the viewer has not experienced before. Perhaps the meaning is to allow the viewer to imagine something new without loosing contact with the past and its future. Similar representational techniques are offered in other parts of the painting.

The overall message: however abstract this painting might seem, it contains a real life message. Change and looking towards the future with perhaps an excess balance towards the future itself appears to be the dominant message. Religion is part of the self and remains in the unexpressed thoughts of both the artist and viewer.

The comments made about this painting cannot be complete and exhaustive. The complexity of this work offers further stimuli for each viewer. The combination of colours green, blue and purple, increase the degree of complexity in reading this painting.

Kindest regards,
